in your heart that god raised him from the dead you shall be saved”

Commit your life to him

“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put
aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross and follow me.”

of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ”

 Support House Resolution 397 - 111th Congress
Thomas Jefferson
Resolved, That the United States House of Representatives--

(1) affirms the rich spiritual and diverse religious history of our Nation’s founding and subsequent history, including up to the current day;

(2) recognizes that the religious foundations of faith on which America was built are critical underpinnings of our Nation’s most valuable institutions and form the inseparable foundation for America’s representative processes, legal systems, and societal structures;

(3) rejects, in the strongest possible terms, any effort to remove, obscure, or purposely omit such history from our Nation’s public buildings and educational resources; and

(4) expresses support for designation of a ‘America’s Spiritual Heritage Week’ every year for the appreciation of and education on America’s history of religious faith.
America's Spiritual Heritage
Some members of Congress have crafted a resolution encouraging Americans to remember the Christian perspective of the Founders. Stuart Shepard and Tom Minnery discuss H.Res. 397 in the Focus Action Update. We encourage you to read the full text of the bill.
ACLJ - HR397 111th Congress

President Obama:  Don’t Deny America’s
Christian Heritage
There’s a powerful push underway to rewrite this nation’s history ... to strip America of its religious past — to deny our country’s Judeo-Christian heritage.  Even President Obama recently said, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation....”

Now, concerned Members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus have stepped forward and introduced the “America’s Spiritual Heritage Resolution” (H.R. 397).  It’s dedicated to recognizing “the rich spiritual and religious history of our nation’s founding.”

The American Center for Law and Justice is strongly backing this Congressional resolution, and we need your generous support to help protect our nation’s rich religious history and continue all of our legal and legislative work across the country.  Give generously and help the ACLJ send a powerful message to Washington:  Don’t rewrite our nation’s history!

Rep. Randy Forbes (R-VA) has introduced House Resolution 397 to designate the first week of May as "America's Spiritual Heritage Week."

Forbes is introducing this resolution to counter the claims of President Barack Hussein Obama that our nation is a now a Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish nation - not primarily a Christian nation.

Ask that your U.S. Representative support passage of H.R. 397.

Rep. Forbes Featured in U.S. News & World Report

An editorial by Congressman Forbes was featured in the U.S. News & World Report on May 7, 2009. An excerpt from the editorial follows:

On April 6, 2009, President Obama, speaking halfway across the world in Turkey, effectively made a shocking proclamation: that the United States did not consider itself a Judeo-Christian nation.

"Although, as I mentioned, we have a very large Christian population, we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation," he said. I do not challenge his right to make that statement, nor do I doubt that he believes it to be true. But there were two critical questions that he failed to ask and answer. First, did America ever consider itself a Judeo-Christian nation? Secondly, if it did, what was the moment or event in which it ceased to do so?

Our nation's history provides overwhelming evidence that America was birthed upon Judeo-Christian principles. The first act of America's first Congress in 1774 was to ask a minister to open with prayer and to lead Congress in the reading of four chapters of the Bible. In 1776, in approving the Declaration of Independence, our founders acknowledged that all men "are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights..." and noted that they were relying "on the protection of Divine Providence" in the founding of this country. John Quincy Adams said, "The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity." Also, the signers of the 1783 Treaty of Paris, which ended the Revolutionary War, insisted the treaty begin with the phrase, "In the name of the most holy and undivided Trinity."

Hostess Committee

                           September 2010

            The 2009-2010 church year will come to a close and our new year will begin on September 1, 2010.  I would be neglectful if I did not give thanks to the members of the Hostess Committee for allowing me to act as their Chairperson.  When I agreed to attempt filling this position, Carolyn Cheshire told me that if I would take the job she would “help me in any way”.  After this year, I can tell you that if Carolyn tells you she will do something, you can “take it to the bank”.  I never did figure out if she was actually ON the committee, but she was right there through every event and activity.  Now, that is service and love. Speaking of service and love, your new Hostess Committee looks much like last years, with the addition of Ramona Rabon.  Alice McKenney, present Co-Chairperson, Pat Revel, Lorraine Parker and Michelle Poston will be returning this year along with alternates, Vi Payton and Ann Windham.  Paulette, thanks for all those trips you took to Sam’s for us this year. Again, many thanks for the help, encouragement and support this year.  Seek out a member of your Hostess Committee and just say “thanks” for a job well done.  They will appreciate it.  Homecoming will be coming up in October.  Please keep Kristin and that committee in your thoughts and prayers.  If you are asked to help, do it.  It will truly be a blessing.

Kaye
